Kirtling and Upend, historic Cambridgeshire villages
Dick's journal

A view from the Old North Arms

We are delighted to welcome Richard Rickcord of Upend as a regular contributor to the website.

Dick has lived a long time in Upend and is a mine of fascinating information about the hamlet and the way of life of the families who lived here in the past. He is also in his own right an expert in rural crafts ranging from cider making to wood turning.

On top of all this, somehow he fits in time to be a Lodge Porter in one of the Cambridge University colleges, as well as holding the post of University Constable.

Dick has very kindly given us access to his wonderful set of historic photographs of Upend which we will be publishing in future updates, together with stories of the families pictured in them. Watch this space if you are interested in local history.
