Kirtling and Upend, historic Cambridgeshire villages
Profile of the artist

I have always had a strong interest in drawing and painting since I was able to hold a pencil, so it could be said that I am a self-taught artist. My strong love of the countryside was born with me and I was always off up the heath or on the Devils Ditch or the Severalls exploring.

When I joined a cycling club aged 14, I covered many a mile on the little lanes of our local area taking in our many beautiful villages like Ashley, Moulton, Dalham, Ousden, Lidgate, Cowlinge, Upend, Kirtling, Wooditton and many others.

I consider myself very lucky to live in such a lovely region that in the 25 years + that I have pedaled around has changed little. I’m sure Upend hasn’t changed at all. I find artistic inspiration for my main subjects of villages, cottages, landscape and wildlife in our local countryside, I feel that there is more natural beauty in my local surroundings than I would be able to paint in several lifetimes.

I hope you enjoy the paintings that John kindly has posted on the Kirtling and Upend site and I thank him for his interest and help.
